Have you been puzzled or frazzled by the differences in memory between men and women?
So many conflicts are generated over women's ability to remember everything and men's ability to remember almost nothing.
There is a reason why men cannot recall details of experience.
Dr. Amen reported that Dr. Larry Cahill from the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine made some remarkable discoveries.
When a woman processes an emotional event, her left hemisphere of her brain is used. The left hemisphere is the part of the brain involved with language and getting details correct.
When a man processes an emotional event, he uses the right hemisphere of his brain. The right hemisphere allows man to have a general idea without specific information regarding a situation. A man is able to get the general idea or the big picture without specifics.
A woman can remember every detail surrounding her marriage; whereas a man usually remembers he did get married.
How frustrating! A woman remembers everything and wants her man to remember everything. A man remembers the general experience and wishes a woman could only remember the general experience.
It is important to know and remember thesee differences in memory between men and women. We must change our mindsets in regard to how we interpret these differences in memory.
A man may actually care and not remember details. A man may honestly not be able to recall details in situations.
A woman is not trying to be critical, suspicious and demeaning when she wants greater details. A woman may be honestly wanting to connect emotionally with a man rather than making him feel stupid and inadequate.
Remember, How We Think about Differences in Memory Will Create the Relationships in Which We Live.
