Difficult Economic Times and Paul Revere

A 700 billion buyout!  Failing banks!  Unbelievable numbers of home foreclosures!  Unfathomable salaries to executives!  Oil and gas prices out of sight!  Reduced salaries and benefits for the working class!  High unemployment!  More and more families on the verge of economic collapse.

As I contemplated the numerous warnings that are economy and political systems are in disarray, corrupted by greed and mismanagement, I thought of Paul Revere.  Don't worry.  I haven't seen a wild man riding a horse warning us of our enemies within our government and Wall Street.  I haven't been hearing voices.

Still the warnings are very clear.  What Paul Revere said on April 18,1775 still holds true today.  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote his poem about Paul Revere's famous midnight ride.  Read the words of the last verse and realize how they apply today.

 So through the night rode Paul Revere;
And so through the night went his cry of alarm
To every Middlesex village and farm,---
A cry of defiance, and not of fear,
A voice in the darkness, a knock at the door,
And a word that shall echo for evermore!
For, borne on the night-wind of the Past,
Through all our history, to the last,
In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
The people will waken and listen to hear
The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed,
And the midnight message of Paul Revere.

Let us hope that Paul Revere was right.  Let us hope that people in America will awaken and listen to the threatening  Messages coming out of Washington.

Let us respond with defiance and not fear.  Let us become like Paul Revere.  Now is the time to replace passively and indifference with action.

We must hold our government and businesses accountable.  We must individually and together fight to keep our democracy "in the hour of darkness and peril and need".

We must focus on taking care of ourselves, our families and our country!  We must not listen and fall asleep to the lullabies of those who are committed to benefit themselves and their parties at the expense of our democracy.

Remember, We Live with an Environment Created by Our Choices!
