I needed a mental fitness program to help my clients. In the 1980s, I did not know of a mental fitness program, so I created one. As a licensed psychologist I wanted to empower my clients as much as possible to take control of their lives.
I believed that traditional, analytical psychotherapy methods were inefficient and not practical; especially when there were very limited sessions authorized by managed-care companies. Analytical treatment necessitated more treatment sessions than what managed-care companies authorized.
In practice, people were being diagnosed with dual diagnoses. It was conceptualized that each diagnosis had a different etiology necessitating different treatment strategies. I questioned the necessity for different treatment strategies. I began my pursuit to find strategies that could be used for most diagnoses other than psychotic diagnoses, no matter the nature of the different diagnoses.
As I listened to my clients from a new perspective, my thinking and practice shifted.
Analyzing the causes of a person's problem was replaced by an approach to discover the inner resources and strategies a person could use to solve their problems.
As a psychologist I was frustrating with analyzing one of a client's problems, when many other problems were put on hold. I wanted a program that could help a client address all of their problems with the same strategies instead of having to work on only one problem at a time.
Patiently, I discovered strategies that clients can use for reducing their symptoms, addressing their problems or empowering them to reach any or all of their goals. Obviously, I was excited and eager to further investigate the power and universality of these strategies.
For over 20 years I have applied these strategies with many of my clients, of all ages, with different diagnoses, problems, relationships, health issues and dreams. These ideas and strategies have been effectual in helping people make decisions and improving the quality of their lives. These strategies are the core of the North Star Mental Fitness Program.
It is exciting for me to know that people can have confidence in coping with their lives. Life can become so much less stressful, when people have the skills or tools for resolving their problems, reducing their symptoms and achieving their goals.
It is nice to have tools that can reduce anxiety, guilt and painful emotions while also providing direction for improving relationships and achieving goals.

The fitness benefits along with your general wealth condition start in your mind. It`s not about what you need to do, it`s about how you do it.
A healthy diet along with regular physical exercises and a good attitude may help you reach your weight loss goals. Your fitness program should also include a series of “mental” fitness that will keep you focused on your purpose. For instance, think how well you will think when you`ll be ten pounds less, how you will look like, what will you wear.
