Simply Successful Secrets

Simply Successful Secrets is the name of an interactive research project started by Aaron Potts of Today Is That Day

I was invited to participate in the project by Karen of Live the Power.  Thank you Karen for "tagging" me.  Different bloggers are "tagged" for participation in the project by other "tagged' bloggers.

The purpose of this project is for each "tagged" person to identify and share 5 to10 things done on almost every day basis that help create their success.

It is a wonderful opportunity to participate in this project.  There was a time in my life that I would l have looked at this invitation as another problem to face and overcome.  Over the years I have learned that every problem has a solution.  Every problem is really an opportunity for success and enjoying the benefits of success.

My first secret for success is to look at each day as full of opportunities.

Throughout a typical day I frequently check out my motivation.  When I have problems in my life, it usually occurs when I have lost my focus.  In order to make the major decisions in my life I use my second secret.  In all situations this secret works for me, if I choose to use it.

My second secret for success is to motivate me throughout the day by making decisions that are best for me.  I frequently asked myself during the day what is the best way to take care of me now or in the situation?  This question helps center my life.  I want to make sure I am living my life according to my values and achieving the results I want in my life.

People are very important for me.  I love listening to people.  I enjoy participating in my client's discovery of themselves and their life journey.

My third secret for success is to listen and learn from people. I would much rather learn by talking with people than by reading books.

Learning to balance life has always been difficult for me.  I have always been a high achiever and enjoyed achievement.  In order to have a balanced life, I've had to learn how to structure my life.  Now I can work hard when I work and play hard when I play.

My fourth secret for success is to find a balance between work and play.

Throughout my life I have worked and enjoyed my work.  From my parents I learned a good work ethic.  They taught me the importance of being responsible and completing projects.

My fifth secret of success has been my commitment to work.

When I began my private practice, I did not realize the importance of taking time out for me and my family.  As a result I eventually noticed a pattern of becoming sick and missing work.  I made a decision to replace sick time with vacation time.  For over 25 years I have taken a week of vacation every three months.   I work long hours, but only work seven out of 10 workdays in my office.

My sixth secret for success has been to limit my work.

Finding a deeper meaning in life has also been very important to me.  I have been very fortunate to have a career that provides satisfaction and genuine expression of myself.

My seventh secret for success has been choosing and working in a career setting that allows me to find genuine meaning in my everyday activities.

For me my Christian faith has been important, although  usually I am turned off by organized religion.  My lifestyle has given the opportunity to genuinely live and express my beliefs.

My eighth secret for success has been integrating my religious beliefs into my everyday living.

I have left the most important secret for success to the end.  I would not have been successful without my wife and family.  Everyday, I know my wife is there for me and has confidence in me.  We are a team.  Although we often times don't agree, we are supportive and committed to each other.

My ninth secret for success has been living life with my wife and family.

Karen, thank you for "tagging" me.  I enjoyed thinking about what are the secrets of my success.

Now I'd like to also "tag"...

Hey Dr. Hal,
Thanks for participating! I think is was an enlightening exercise for all of us. It has been really fun reading every ones list. I hope more and more will participate!
Joy and Blessings,
Karen

Hal,

As I have been going through the many lists that the participants in this project have been putting together, I have found many times that there is a common "theme" that runs through a person's entire list.

Yes, the individual entries are different, but the current that runs through many of the lists is clearly flowing in a certain direction, and that is definitely the case with your powerful list of success secrets.

When reading your list, I was struck with the belief that not only do you firmly believe in the habits that you have listed, but that you are also confident in your ability to continue to use them as successfully as you already have.

Having clearly defined ways of being that each of us as individuals believes in is - in my opinion - one of the cornerstones of success. From my perspective, I think that you have that part of the process down pat.

It was a pleasure to read your list, Hal, and I very much look forward to adding your words to the "master" list that I am compiling from all of the participants.

Thanks for your quality input!

Great information. Thanks

I have been reading a lot of information regarding what people 'think' of as the secret of success in most forms (personal, business, etc..) They all seem to come to the same points in different words.

There is always a patch of light in a sea of darkness. Love commitment issues can hurt.

Not bad advise.
