There are five secrets for coping with emptiness. While pumping gas into my car, I noticed many people doing likewise. None of us were demonstrating irritation or symptoms of emotional disturbance.
I wondered what have most of us learned about cars, gas gauges and putting gas into our vehicles. It became apparent to me: Whatever we have learned prevents us from becoming emotionally disturbed when filling our car's tank with gas.
The five secrets for coping with emptiness, I learned from pumping gas and from being a Life and Mental Fitness Coach.
I believe there are times of fullness and emptiness in all aspects of human experience. It is an unrealistic expectation to expect good times all the time. I am blogging about emptiness, because I believe the expectation for having a "completely full life all the time" causes significant emotional pain and emotional disturbance for many people..
The five secret steps for coping with human emptiness are:
1. Expectation: Expect that there will be times of fullness and emptiness in all parts of your life and in your relationships. Really think about this. Have you really expected emptiness in all aspects of your life? Have you really expected your significant others to have periods of emptiness in their lives?
2. Acceptance: Accept the reality of emptiness in your life. Focus on accepting the emptiness in others. Accept that there will be times of fullness and emptiness in pursuing your wants, needs, relationships, dreams, and achievement.
3. Recognition: Recognize when you are empty and your signals of emptiness. Recognize the emptiness and the signals of emptiness in your significant others. People have their unique signals when they are empty. Therefore, identify emptiness and signals of emptiness in yourself and your significant others.
4. Action: Act to find meaning, satisfaction or fullness in your life. Avoid passivity. Don't wait for others or things to make you feel better. Just take action to bring fullness into your life!
5. Results: Claim your success for filling your tank. After you have acted with courage and passion to fill your emptiness, claim your success and the benefits from success. The psychological benefits of success are happiness, peace of mind, freedom, and control over your life.
Pumping gas into your car's gas tank is simple and mundane. This mundane activity isn't stressful or emotionally taxing, because of the secrets we've learned about pumping gas.
Since we already know how to apply these secrets in pumping gas, how about applying these secrets in satisfying ourselves and our significant others!
